Semi-Annual Blog Update

So here it is. The Semi-Annual Scott Family Blog Update. Yes I know, you are not seeing things. I realized that A LOT of things have happened since last September when I updated. But oddly enough the most recent event in our house has to do with Ryan getting hurt, but I fill you in on that later. Since there is sooo much I guess I will start at the beginning.

October was a lot of fun. We decided to go all out for Halloween and dress up the entire family. So we pulled off "The Wizard of OZ." We had almost the entire cast from the Wicked Witch of the West to a Munchkin. The kids thought it was the funniest thing ever! Any ideas for next year?

November was pretty low key. We did celebrate our first one year anniversary in our home, and we are loving it!!! It's nice to not have the kids under my feet all the time. Especially when they are getting bigger and bigger. Some days I wish they would just stay little. We were able to celebrated Thanksgiving with some of our close friends.

December was a busy month. I had surgery at the beginning of the month which left Brent and some of my friends in charge of EVERYTHING for a couple of weeks. Everyone was FABULOUS and extremely helpful. We had a great Christmas. I have decided that my favorite part of Christmas is watching the expressions on the kids faces when they open a gift. It was also very fun when Mandy and her family showed up for a little visit. We didn't tell any of the kids that they were coming. The surprise was GREAT! Maybe next time we will head there way, :) (maybe I will give you a little warning)

January. I can not believe that it is already 2010! Seriously I am beginning to feel old! The most exciting thing for us in January was Kylie's 4th birthday. It really does not seem like she could be 4 already. She had a great princess birthday. She is our little princess.

And then just a few days later (in Feb) Brynlie turned 2. I know!!! My baby is two. Where has the past two years gone? She is growing up so much! It is so much fun staying home with the two little ones. They remind me so much of McKenely and Kaitlyn when they were this age. We also were able to have Grandma and Grandpa Lybbert here for the celebration. Which for us doesn't happen very often. My kids love it when grandma and grandpa come for a visit, cause they know we will eat at all the good restaurants and they can skip school. And it helps that they always bring an "extra" bag with goodies. A week after they left poor Kylie had her tonsils and adenoids removed. Her snoring and sleep apnea had gotten pretty bad. The Dr came out after her surgery and said that he had never seen tonsils that big. Before they took her back they gave her some medicine that made her a little loopy. It was soooooo funny!!! She was telling the story of the Three Little Pigs and was making the voices. The nurses we just laughing. She is just a hoot!

And now here we are in March. We started the month off with SNOW. Yep, you read that correctly. Now we do not get snow that often, let alone when it sticks! The kids thought it was AWESOME. Byrnlie and Kylie had never really seen snow before. Ty did not like how it made your hands hurt when they played in it. They had a great time building a snowman. I know it's nothing like the storm Aimee had, but for here we'll take it. Ryan also started soccer this month. He was really excited about doing something that didn't involve any of his sisters. And honestly I don't blame the kid. They won their first game. The sad part was that soccer came to a screeching halt when he broke his arm (I'll go into more detail later). Poor kid also celebrated his 7th birthday in a cast. Unable to really do anything fun, but we made it as fun as we could.

Now we find ourselves preparing for Easter. Who knows what the next few months will bring. Maybe I will even do better at updating this thing. Don't hold your breath. :)

What did I do today?

So I had a lot if things planned for today, but it came to a complete halt when the school called. This is how the conversation went:

"Mrs Scott?"

"yes"

"This is Pamela from Murchison. Ryan has fallen on the playground and has a cut on the back of his head. He is ok, but the nurse would like for you to come in.

"Is the "ok" code for, 'he is going to need stitches?"

"Yes, he is sitting next to me in the nurses office."

"Ok, I am not home and it will take me about 20 minutes to get there, but I will be as fast as I can."

When I got to the school Ryan was wearing a dance team t-shirt, cause his shirt was soaked in blood and he was white as a ghost. Luckily Kylie had a lunch in the car (cause she was supposed to go to playgroup) that we rummaged through for something to keep him from passing out, and off the the Urgent Care we went. Through it all Ryan was a very brave kid. They had to give him 2 staples, and they didn't even numb it first. I think he deserves ice cream.

Popcorn?

They other day the kids asked if they could pop some popcorn. I said sure just don't eat on the carpet. When I came into the room this is what I saw......

kids can be so creative. I love those kids!!!

Pflugerville Lake

We live only a few minutes from Pflugerville Lake and have enjoyed walking the the path all around. But, while we were gone they put in a "beach" area at one end. So the other day the kids and I decided to go check it out. I was a little bored, but the kids LOVED it. They had so much fun playing with the rocks and in the sand. The roped off area was nice cause it never went deep enough for the older kids to be under the water. When it was time to go they didn't want to leave, it took me 35 minutes to get everyone out. I definitely think that we will go again.

Finally a Pet

Like so many other kids our kids have been BEGGING for a pet. I have been able to keep it at bay by saying "not until everyone in the house is potty trained." Well that came to an end the other day. When Brent was mowing the lawn the other day he came upon a den of little gray babies. I was a little worried. I spent a long time on the internet trying to figure out what kind of animals they were. Luckily, I determined that they were rabbits. I would have hated it if they had been mice, cause that would have been a delicate situation. Needless to say the kids have had so much fun watching them grow. McKenely named one Rosebud and Kaitlyn named one Rascal. They were pretty sad when they woke one morning and realized that they were gone. Fortunately we have more than enough wild rabbits around here to keep them occupied.

Poor baby :(

Our poor baby. Kaitlyn has started the process of braces - Yes, you heard me right. Our 8 year old is getting braces. We have have known for a while now that she would need work done, but why so soon?. I think the first signs were when her teeth started to grow in rows(like a shark). We soon found out that her mouth just wasn't big enough (that is debatable) for her teeth to come in strait. So we have begun the never ending journey. It started with her two bottom canines being pulled. So last Friday she had 1 cavity filled and 1 tooth pulled. And today she had 2 cavities filled and 1 tooth pulled. Poor girl. She can't eat anything except ice cream and yogurt (sympathy can end now). OH, don't think the story is over with. Tomorrow she gets spacers put in and fitted for an expander. It's going to be awesome!!!

Wow! What a Whirlwind Vacation!!!

Yes, we did survive!!!! For the past 6 months we (that really means- ME) have been looking forward to this great family vacation. For those of you who didn't know we made a trek northward. Like always it was an adventure from the very beginning!!! Brent and I decided to take our time and split the drive up into three days. It started off really well, until we hit New Mexico. New Mexico HATES us. Something always goes wrong there. The first time we went we lost the transmission in the Suburban we had owned 28days. We spent 3 days in the middle of nowhere waiting on a new one. It was AWESOME!!! The second time I got strep and had a 104.3 fever and had to go to the emergency room to get a shot in my BUTT. Yeah it felt great spending the next two days sitting in the car. So, the entire time we were in New Mexico I was waiting for something to happen. On day two it looked like we might make it through without a problem. Wishful thinking. As we were heading to breakfast in the hotel lobby, Brynlie starts throwing-up everywhere! It was awful. Needless to say we found out that she had pneumonia. When we finally made it to Salt Lake City we spent a week just playing. We took the kids to Lagoon, Hogle Zoo, Temple Square, This is the Place Monument and then just visiting with friends and family. We even hit the 4th of July parade that I used to go to when I was a kid. I loved it! They even brought a tank down the middle of the street. It was unbelievable!!! The next week we spent with Brent's family. There is a HUGE field behind his parents place where we took the kids 4-wheeling, we cooked smores and tinfoil dinners in the fire pit. We had a great time, except the mosquito's were terrible. From Blackfoot we headed to Star Valley, Wyoming. There we spent 3 days with all of Brent's family. That includes 12 adults and 15 kids in one cabin. That was an adventure all in itself. After Brent's family reunion we headed to Island Park, Id for my reunion. Almost everyone was able to make it. Aimee's husband had just been deployed days before, Mandy and her family needed to stay behind. It was just to far to travel with the the twins, I am glad that they were able to make it to SLC. Abbey's husband is doing his residency and I needn't say anymore. Even though not everybody was there we had a great time. We went to Yellowstone where we saw old faithful, buffalo, elk, deer, pelicans, a bald eagle and a moose! The kids LOVED it. We also went to a fish hatchery, Mesa Falls and swam in a freezing cold river. We even did a family Olympics! After the great food and family fun we started the trek homeward bound. Trying to be the best parents ever we decided to head home a different way. When we hit Kansas we couldn't find a place to stay. The kids can now say that they have spent a full 36 1/2 hours in the car, non-stop!!! For those of you who are curious sleeping in the car is not comfortable. I don't recommend it. Needless to say, we made it home safe and sound, and VERY grateful to be out of the car!!! Here are some pictures of our trip. All of the kids did enjoy the cool weather and the Beautiful mountains. All McKenely wanted to do was climb a mountain. So I drove as close as I could and let her have it. I hope this will be a memory that they will never forget.

Ryan's 6th Birthday!!

So I finally downloaded all the pictures off my camera and found a Ton. Yes, I know that I am a slacker. Here are a few of the pictures from Ryan's 6th birthday. It was a very eventful day. We have the tradition that the birthday person gets to pick a place to eat for their dinner, (it makes it a special day for me too). And surprise surprise Ryan picked Mexican. So as we were loading up the kids to go out for dinner when we noticed that the sky had gone black. I flipped on the news and found out that we had a sever thunderstorm with softball sized hail heading strait for us.

So we had to scrap dinner plans and figure a way to get the cars in the garage. So while Brent worked on getting the garage done I whipped up some dinner. Dinner turned out great and Ry had his Walle cake. My car made it into the garage, but Brent's wasn't so lucky. The hail pelted us pretty hard. Our garage door and Brent's car look like golf balls. It caused $15,000 in damage to our new home. Yes, those numbers are correct. Thank heaven for homeowners insurance!!! Needless to say Ryan will never forget his birthday.

It's about time....

Okay!!! I will get to my blog. Stop harassing me! I know that it has been forever since I have posted anything- but I am soooo busy. For instance it's Thursday and I have babysat 3 times this week already.

Things have been very busy here at the Scott household. Last week the kids had their last day of school. Yeah!!!! I was really excited about not having to set my alarm, but I am realizing 5 kids can DESTROY a house in under 10 minutes (I think I would rather set my alarm). Now don't get me wrong, I love my kids. What I don't love is picking up after them. I am all about "Daily Duties". I guess we'll see how this works out.

So far our summer vacation has been a lot of time at the pool. Since our neighborhood pool isn't finished we rely on the kindness of our friends. But luckily we will be heading north to visit family in the next two weeks. I think it will be a lot of fun, Brent is coming around. The kids are excited to see all of their cousins. We are also looking forward to Kaitlyn's 8th birthday in 9 days, and also her baptism. I can't believe how fast these kids are growing up.

And that's what's happening here in Texas :)

Computer Savey?

NO, I am not computer savey. I get to frustrated when things do not work out the way I want when I want them to. I will tell you an example if you promise not to laugh (Kristin). I have been trying to change the background on this blog for about a week now. The first time I did it I wasn't really paying attention and now I can't remember. And yes, I did read the directions. It is still not working. So I just give up and come back to it a couple of days later, and the process just keeps going. I have seriously considered taking a computer class at ACC. And then I remember that I don't even have time to do laundry when would I do that. So be patient while I figure this stuff out :)
